NSW DRAFT BUILDING BILL 2024
RAA Response to the NSW Draft Building Bill 2024
The proposed new Building Bill and associated Regulation will dramatically alter the current building industry landscape. RAA applauds
and supports industry reform and the potentially positive impact this could have on the design and delivery of our built environment. We have reviewed the draft Bill, hosted an online session with the Building Commission and consulted widely with our members and other regional practitioners. Arising from this process, we support parts of the proposed legislation, but also have concerns about unintended consequences and the negative impact these could have on the industry and the intent of the new legislation.
Our submission concentrates on the regulation of design service and the specific requirements that will impact design professionals in the industry.

NSW DRAFT BUILDING BILL 2024
Watch the RAA & ACA Member Forum with the Building Commission - 4th September 2024
RAA (along with Association of Consulting Architects, with whom RAA has a memorandum of understanding), held an online forum with representatives of the Building Commission NSW to establish a clearer understanding of the implications of the NSW Draft Building Bill for regional practitioners.
The questions presented in the session were submitted by RAA members prior to the meeting and provided to BCNSW in advance. The Q&A after the questions was responding to questions posted during the session by attendees. Questions submitted during the session that were not addressed due to time constraints have been collected from the transcript and will form part of the RAA’s submission to BCNSW on the draft legislation.
Following lobbying by RAA and other organisations, the consultation period for the bill has been extended to 18th October. If there are any further questions that you would like answered, please send them to info@regionalarchitecture.net.au and we will consider tham as part of our submission.
A recording of the session is available here.
