Joanna Nelson Architect is a sole practice, with completed projects in the ACT, NSW and Victoria.

Joanna Nelson graduated with honours from Adelaide University. She began her practice based in Melbourne (1987 - 2004).

From 2005 to 2009 she worked as Senior Architect with the National Capital Authority in Canberra. She returned to private practice in 2010, based in Canberra until 2024 and currently based in Melbourne.

She deliberately focusses on built work and is dedicated to the inventive and rigorous exploration of each project’s architectural potential.

Her projects have been included in a range of publications and have won numerous awards - most recently, the 2024 AIA ACT Chapter’s Canberra Medallion and Gene Wilsford Award for Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions), for House on a Path.
