Program & Event Information.

PERIPHERAL – around the edges of creativity 

19-21 September 2024.


Booking note: Full Event ticket includes Main Seminar Day on the Friday as well as a Fringe Program of optional events on the Thursday and Saturday; these are designed to offer further opportunities to engage with the local area in a fun and relaxing way. Events with a * next to them require delegates to register for an additional free ticket for the purpose of managing numbers.

THURSDAY PROGRAM.

12-3 FURNITURE MAKING WORKSHOP*
This workshop will be at Natural Brick’s Factory, 20 Production Ave, Warragamba. Wear enclosed shoes that can get dirty on the day. It can get a little messy.

4:30-5:30PM WELCOME TO COUNTRY & YARNING WITH AUNTY CAROL*
Meet at The Gully, Garguree, 21 Gates Ave, Katoomba. Come prepared for a short walk.

6:00-8:00PM COMMUNITY DINNER (BUY YOUR OWN)
This dinner will be at Mountain Culture Katoomba Brew Pub, 23-25 Parke St, Katoomba. Delegates should simply take available table seating on arrival, there will not be a single large table reserved for the RAA.

FRIDAY INFO.

The Main Seminar Day will take place at Everglades House & Gardens, 37 Everglades Ave, Leura. Street parking is available, carpooling is encouraged to reduce congestion in this largely residential area.

Watch the sun set over the Three Sisters from Echo Point Lookout, Prince Henry Cliff Walk, Katoomba.

Dinner will be at Bowery. This is situated at 56-64 Waratah St, Katoomba. Note: drinks other than water/sparkling water to be purchased at bar.

8:00-8:45AM WALK TO ELYSIAN ROCK LOOKOUT
Park at: Gordon Fall on picnic area Carpark, corner Olympian Parade and Lone Pine Avenue and enjoy this short morning walk with other delegates.

8:45AM GATHER AT MEETING POINT FOR DOMICELJ HOUSE
Meeting point advised in document sent directly to delegates.

9:00-10:00AM DOMICELJ HOUSE
Richard Leplastrier will take delegates through this residential dwelling made up of a series of buildings set within the landscape. NOTE: Please absolutely no photography or filming, bring your notebook and pens to sketch instead! 

10:15-11:15AM LEURA HOUSE
Location advised in document sent directly to delegates. James Stockwell will take delegates through his Wilkinson award winning rammed earth project, available to see in a rare opportunity made possible by the owners. The geology and landscape of edges, cliffs, caves, and ponds of the Blue Mountains and the valley form inspired the design. NOTE: Shoes off please and absolutely no photography or filming, bring your notebook and pens to sketch instead! 

11:30-12:30AM MOIRAI
Location advised in document sent directly to delegates. James Stockwell will take delegates through this fireproof companion to the famed Art Deco 'Olympus' landmark building at Echo point; the infill building of concrete experiments with light, structure, geometry and extreme fire protection. NOTE: Shoes off please and absolutely no photography or filming, bring your notebook and pens to sketch instead! 

1:00PM SOCIAL LUNCH (BUY YOUR OWN)
This lunch will be at the Conservation Hut Wentworth Falls, 92 Fletcher St, Wentworth Falls. Note: due to size of the group, a reduced menu will be offered, refer final page of document.

QUESTIONS OR ISSUES DURING THE EVENT
An event WhatsApp group will be created and a committee phone number will be provided ahead of the event.

RAA PHOTOGRAPHY & FILMING
Regional Architecture Association's event ‘PERIPHERAL – around the edges of creativity’ will be photographed and filmed for the promotional and educational purposes of the organisation. By attending, you confirm that you consent to yourself being photographed/filmed for this purpose. If you have any concerns about this, please contact Rhiannon on info@regionalarchtecture.net.au

IMPORTANT ITEMS TO BRING
Please ensure you BYO a reusable coffee cup and water bottle. Also bring your own paper and pen or electronic device to record your CPD learnings. And make sure you bring a warm clothes and a raincoat.

CARPOOLING & COMMUNICATION
We will set up an event specific WhatsApp group for PERIPHERAL, which all delegates are invited to join. This can be used to facilitate carpooling arrangements between attendees, communicate event information and advise of any last-minute changes.
  
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS
If you forgot to advise us of any dietary requirements on registration through Humanitix, please let us know ASAP by emailing info@regionalarchtecture.net.au

CPD
There will be a total of 6 formal CPD points available across Friday 20th September. The relevant performance criteria will be published here and RAA will provide all attendees with a certificate for formal CPD following the event. The Board of Architects requires participants maintain a record of learnings in relation to identified competencies and for these to be uploaded with the certificate.

Delegates can make their own assessment for informal CPD for fringe events.

- Leura is approximately a 1 hour 40 min drive from Sydney Airport and a 2 hour train ride from Sydney CBD
- Leura is accessible by vehicle or train
- Everglades House & Garden is a 25 minute walk from Leura Train Station.

Please note that the Thursday dinner is at Mountain Culture and the Friday dinner is at Bowery - both venues in Katoomba in case you would like to prioritise staying close by.
