Marina Olsen and Dougal Phillips of Banki Haddock Fiora will discuss copyright and intellectual property law as they relate to architectural design practice, delving into best practice approach.
Marina joined Banki Haddock Fiora in 2013 after practising as a Senior Associate at a national firm and a leading London firm. Marina has extensive experience in litigation relating to both defamation and intellectual property, as well as in general commercial disputes. Marina also advises on commercial and privacy legal issues, with a particular focus on issues facing media clients. Her expertise and interest covers a broad range of industries, including media and entertainment, sport, design and consumer goods. She sits on the committee for the Communications & Media Law Association and is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association, and works closely with the Authentic Design Alliance, which supports and promotes original, authentic design in Australia.
Dougal joined Banki Haddock Fiora as a paralegal in 2013 before relocating to the U.S. in 2015 where he was admitted to the New York Bar and worked for a number of years in copyright litigation in Los Angeles, specialising in infringements related to photography, fashion and music. Dougal rejoined the firm in 2021 in the Copyright and Litigation group. Prior to his legal career Dougal was a contemporary art curator with visual arts organisations in Sydney, New York and Paris. He holds a PhD in Art History and Theory, was previously a lecturer at the University of Sydney and the College of Fine Arts (UNSW) and has been published in The Copyright Reporter.
